Indirect identification of horizontal gene transfer

چکیده
Abstract Several implicit methods to infer horizontal gene transfer (HGT) focus on pairs of genes that have diverged only after the divergence two species in which reside. This situation defines edge set a graph, later-divergence-time (LDT) whose vertices correspond colored by their species. We investigate these graphs setting relaxed scenarios, i.e., evolutionary scenarios encompass all commonly used variants duplication-transfer-loss literature. characterize LDT as subclass properly vertex-colored cographs, and provide polynomial-time recognition algorithm well an construct scenario explains given LDT. An graph implies corresponding are separated at least one HGT event. The converse is not true, however. show complete xenology relation described rs-Fitch multipartite satisfying constraints vertex coloring. class also recognizable polynomial time. finally address question “how much information about events contained graphs” with help simulations wide range duplication, loss, events. In particular, we simple greedy editing scheme can be efficiently detect implicitly graphs.

Horizontal Gene Transfer
Horizontal gene transfer (HGT) is the movement of genetic information between organisms, a process that includes the spread of antibiotic resistance genes among bacteria (except for those from parent to offspring), fueling pathogen evolution. Many resistance genes evolved long ago in natural environments with no anthropogenic influence but these genes are now rapidly spreading to and among huma...
متن کاملInferring Horizontal Gene Transfer
Horizontal or Lateral Gene Transfer (HGT or LGT) is the transmission of portions of genomic DNA between organisms through a process decoupled from vertical inheritance. In the presence of HGT events, different fragments of the genome are the result of different evolutionary histories. This can therefore complicate the investigations of evolutionary relatedness of lineages and species. Also, as ...
متن کاملHorizontal gene transfer and phylogenetics.
The initial analysis of complete genomes has suggested that horizontal gene transfer events are very frequent between microorganisms. This could potentially render the inference, and even the concept itself, of the organismal phylogeny impossible. However, a coherent phylogenetic pattern has recently emerged from an analysis of about a hundred genes, the so-called 'core', strongly suggesting th...

Horizontal gene transfer (HGT) has played a major role in bacterial evolution and is fairly common in certain unicellular eukaryotes. However, the prevalence and importance of HGT in the evolution of multicellular eukaryotes remain unclear. Recent studies indicate that plant mitochondrial genomes are unusually active in HGT relative to all other organellar and nuclear genomes of multicellular e...
متن کاملHorizontal Gene Transfer in Evolution
The concept of horizontal or lateral gene transfer (the non-genealogical transmission of genetic material between organisms) was introduced in 1990s to explain the observed incongruence in phylogenetic reconstructions using different genes. Today, horizontal gene transfer is accepted as an important force modulating evolution of Bacteria, Archaea and unicellular eukaryotes, and evidence is risi...
